What? Makeup that's not from Sephora?!

Many YouTube vloggers are raving about some great drug store makeup and I wanted to see what the buzz was about! There are a few specific brands/products that multiple YouTube beauty gurus are talking about and I decided that while I was in Rite Aid, I would go and explore the make up aisles and see if they had any of the products. I was on the look out for Maybeline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser, Maybeline Color Tattoo 24 hour cream eye shadow, and some inexpensive eye shadow palettes from Wet N' Wild Cosmetics.

I have been buying my makeup at Sephora forever so it was strange to be at the Rite Aid looking in the cosmetic section! I was able to find 2 nice Color tattoo eye shadows, in Rich Mahogany and Audacious Asphalt, (about $8 each) and picked up the Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser in Medium, (about $9 each.) I looked at the Wet N' Wild eye shadow palettes but didn't find anything that I liked for my skin tone. I did find a nice palette in the NYC (New York Colors) Individual Eyes line - which included a primer, highlighter and 4 shadows for $5. Crazy!

I wanted to try the 24 hour color tattoo eyeshadow by itself and without my usual Lorac Primer. It went on very nicely and the color was very smooth and buildable. It lasted for a long time but did show creasing by the end of the day. (Probably due to the lack of primer.) Another day I layered it with a NYX loose pearl eyeshadow and it lasted a bit longer. I loved both of the colors and they both easily could be used for daytime and night looks. I will try them also using primer to see if it really can last all day with no creasing. I applied the product with my fingers and not a brush. I will also try application with a brush to see how the cream applies to the lid.

The NYC palette really surprised me and lasted all day over my Lorac eye primer. Is is called the Smokey Eye Palette for Brown Eyes. I loved the shimmery colors in this set, which were a smokey dark gray, a gray-purple, a taupe brown and a light silver. The shadow was pretty pigmented, smooth and had little fall out. I have not had a chance to try the cream eyelid primer that came with the set, but I will probably test it on the weekend. The light cream silver brow bone highlighter shade was easy to apply and provided a subtle silver highlight. I usually use a powder for highlight so it was nice to try a cream product for the brow bone.

The age rewind dark circle eraser worked pretty well for the price and was great for office touch-ups. The applicator is built-in and does not need washing, which is a plus. You click the neck to the left a few clicks and the product is dispensed. It's definitely not as good as Benefit's erase paste, but works in a pinch. I opted for the medium shade instead of the honey so that I could extend the lighter color over the top of the cheekbones where I apply my highlighter.

It was an adventure and I look forward to trying a few more YouTube beauty guru favorites!
